Brussels, 09/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - The next (the third) meeting of the taskforce on improving economic governance, chaired by Herman Van Rompuy, will be held on Monday 12 July towards 12.30pm, in Brussels. The work of the taskforce will focus on two subjects: - the setting up of a permanent crisis management mechanism and measures allowing economic governance to be improved. During its previous meeting, on 7 June, the task force had discussed the strengthening of budgetary discipline and closing competitiveness gaps (EUROPE 10155).

The taskforce is composed of the president of the European Council, the 27 EU finance ministers, the European commissioner for economic and financial affairs, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the president of Eurogroup. The mandate of the taskforce is to develop measures and essential reform by October to ensure economic policies are in line with each other and to ensure that greater European Union budgetary discipline is observed.
