14/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - The new wave of violence in Kyrgyzstan, which has seen 100 people killed over the last few days, is a source of concern to the EU, which has sent its special representative for Central Asia, Pierre Morel, to the region. In a backdrop to the Foreign Affairs Council on Monday 14 June in Luxembourg, the EU high representative for foreign affairs, Catherine Ashton, said that she had been in contact with their special representative, who would be returning to the region in an effort to see what the EU could provide in terms of aid. The Commission will be sending an expert in humanitarian matters to the country in order to assess the situation and prepare European aid for thousands of refugees fleeing the violence.
