Commission says raising target to 30% is feasible without incurring much higher costs, but leaves decision to European Council - No alarmism on carbon leaks

Brussels, 26/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - In addition to the benefits it would bring to the climate, increasing the target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 from 20% to 30% (compared with 1990 levels and assuming that the other major economies act in similar fashion) would bring great economic benefit to Europe, the European Commission says in a communication adopted on Wednesday 26 May (see EUROPE 10143).
