25/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 25 May, the Competitiveness Council adopted conclusions on the functioning and implementation of EU drug precursors legislation. It welcomes the conclusions of the recent Commission report which among other things indicates that the control system in place contributes to the fight against terrorism and organised crime. The Council takes note of the analysis in the report of certain weaknesses in the existing control system, and stresses the need to “address these issues through amendments to the existing legislation”. The Commission is invited to propose legislative amendments before the end of 2011 after carefully assessing their potential impact on member states' authorities and economic operators.
