Euro counterfeiters arrested in Poland

Brussels, 26/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 23 April, the Polish police announced the arrest of 13 individuals during a raid coordinated by Europol to smash a large-scale counterfeit euro ring in the EU. The arrests were made around the city of Lublin by 120 Polish police officers as part of a clamp-down that started in 2007 of a Polish ring fabricating false euro notes (€20, €50 and €100), which circulate in some 15 member states, explains a police press release. In total, 81 individuals have been arrested to date in this case, with earlier raids taking place in April and September last year. Thus far, some 35 people have been found guilty and sent to prison in Poland and 12 others are subject to the European arrest warrant for crimes which are punishable by up to ten years in prison.
