Brussels, 16/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - In an interview with the German daily, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, of 14 April, Karel De Gucht calls for the goals of the Doha trade round to be “re-devised” and for the “menu” to be changed. He says: “We have two options: either we set ourselves new, ambitious goals or we try to agree on a 'Doha Light'”. This second option, he said, “would above all mean opening up less of the market for agricultural products”. The first option, however, based on “a new ambitious goal (…) would be a cancellation of customs duties on climate-friendly goods”, De Gucht explains. “We must talk about this at the G20 meeting in June in Toronto. But I do not expect us to reach concrete results this year”, he concludes. (E.H./transl.jl)
