12/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European People's Party will back David Cameron's Conservative Party in the general election in the United Kingdom on 6 May, EPP Secretary General Antonio Lopez-Isturiz told journalists in Brussels on 12 April. “We want David Cameron and the Conservatives to win this election,” he said, stating that the Tories were still the “friends” of the EPP. He also expressed the wish that UK Conservative MEPs would rejoin the EPP in the European Parliament, after leaving the group following the European elections of June 2009 to set up a new Conservative group, the ECR. It was, Lopez-Isturiz said, “sad” that, at this “crucial moment” for Europe, the EPP, the largest political family, did not have a UK voice. He ruled out, however, any concessions from the EPP to encourage this return to the fold. (A.By./transl.rt)
