Brussels, 12/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - The agenda of the next Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) will be discussed during the visit of European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht to Washington on 10 May. On his first visit to the United States in this role, De Gucht will hold discussions with the White House's Deputy Economic Affairs Adviser Michael Froman to determine the agenda for the next TEC, which the two will co-chair. According to US daily Inside US Trade, neither side has so far revealed the issues they want on the agenda. However, in a joint letter on 25 March, five business organisations in the United States and the EU - BusinessEurope, the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU, the Transatlantic Business Dialogue, the US Chamber of Commerce and the European-American Business Council - press the joint chairmen to focus the agenda on macroeconomic issues and the regulatory framework for businesses, financial market regulation and common accountancy standards, the green economy and energy efficiency standards, and innovation (e-health and nanotechnology).
