31/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 7 April, the European Union is expected to launch the new Somali security force training mission (EUTM). The training will take place in Uganda, in coordination with the African Union Mission (AMISOM) and the provisional Somali government, responsible for the pre-selection of candidates (EUROPE 10021). EUTM will consist of two six month training missions, each of which will provide specific training to 1000 recruits, who will complete the basic training with the Ugandan army. The courses will be divided into several modules (urban combat, combating explosive devices, first aid and communication). European personnel will also ensure the training of future leaders in the Somali army (officers and non-commissioned officers). Training is expected to begin at the beginning of May. The mission will have around 140 soldiers. Spain, which is mission leader nation and France, Germany, Portugal and Italy are the biggest contributors. (A.By.)
