26/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 25 March, the European Parliament decided on six priority areas it will be promoting for the 65th meeting of the United Nations General Assembly that will start in September 2010, namely the EU's role in the United Nations, global governance, reform of the UN, peace, security, development human rights and climate change. MEPs' demands are set out in a resolution drafted by Alexander Graf Lambsdorff (ALDE, Germany) that was carried by the EP and that calls on new EU High Representative Catherine Ashton to ensure better coordination of EU member states' views on reform of the UN Security Council. The resolution says that the EU's long-term objective must remain for the EU to have a seat on a larger Security Council. MEPs urge the Security Council to commit to full nuclear disarmament in line with the aims of the US Administration. (L.C./transl.fl)
