24/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - With negotiations on the second stage air agreement between the EU and the United States (Open Sky) having resumed on Tuesday 23 March, the American press indicated that the Congress would probably not return to the issue of investment in US firms this year. Deputy Secretary at the US Department of Transportation Charles Hunnicutt, quoted by USA Today, said, however, that the agreement was conceivable, but that the Congress would not reach any decision on opening the US market to foreign capital (still limited to 25% of voting shares) before November - the deadline for concluding negotiations. “It's not politically possible” for Congress to re-open the debate in the near future, but “someday, the reality of the network nature of international air travel will lead Congress to reconsider how airlines are owned,” he suggested.
