17/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - France, Germany and the United Kingdom want the EU to take measures to prevent foreign channels in Iran being jammed and censored. They are particularly calling for a ban on the export of certain technology. According to a spokesperson for the French foreign affairs department, quoted by AFP, foreign affairs ministers from the three countries have written a joint letter to their counterparts calling for the EU to adopt a declaration condemning the jamming of foreign television and radio channels in Iran and called for this practice to be immediately halted. Bernard Kouchner, Guido Westerwelle and David Miliband are also calling for additions to be made to the lists of goods banned for export to Iran and which are used to censor and impinge on the freedom of communication, explained the spokesperson from the Quai d'Orsay. This subject is expected to be discussed during the Foreign Affairs Council on 22 March next. (H.B.)
