Brussels, 17/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 16 March, the European Investment Bank (EIB) granted a €200 million loan to co-finance the construction of a 57 km section of the A1 motorway (Maciejow-Sosnica-Gorzycki), a 51.3 km section of the A4 motorway (Zgorzelec-Krzyzowa) and the rehabilitation of an 8 km section of the A6 motorway (Klucz-Kijewo). This is the second tranche of the EIB loan to finance this motorway upgrading programme, following a loan of €300 million for the same purpose. Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) is the EIB loan borrower and the National Road Fund is the promoter of the project, which will help to implement the ambitious National Road Programme of Poland.
On Tuesday, the European Investment Bank also provided an intermediated loan of €50 million to Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) to support projects of small and medium-sized enterprises and local public authorities in Poland. The EIB loan will finance smaller projects in the areas of industry, environment, energy, health, education and knowledge-based economy and services, including tourism. Projects to be financed will be promoted by small and medium sized companies and local authorities and they should not exceed total costs of €25 million. The current loan is a continuation of the successful cooperation between the EIB and BGK. The EIB had already provided loans to this financial institution amounting to some €1.75 billion.
