16/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - Over breakfast attended by the chair of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), Sir David Tweedie, on Tuesday 16 March 2010, EU Internal Market Commissioner Michel Barnier set out the European Commission's expectations, shared he said by 'many ministers' for international accounting standards, namely a complete overhaul of the International Financial Reporting Standard IFRS9 to ensure a 'mixed system' for accounting for assets at the right value and ensuring financial stability; ensuring regulatory convergence between the EU and the United States; and suggesting clear reforms of governance of the way international accounting standards are drawn up in order to give regulators greater powers in the countries using the standards.
