Brussels, 10/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 10 February, the European Commission confirmed that it had sent a statement of objections to a number of companies it believes may have set up a cartel to fix prices for sending air freight, a practice which violates the antitrust rules of the EU (Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union). As is usual in such cases, the Commission has not revealed the names of the companies in question, but has issued a press release in which it announces that they are suspected of having agreed to apply excessive prices for sending freight on the following routes: - United Kingdom/countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA); -EEA/United States; - China/EEA; - south of China and Hong Kong to EEA.
