08/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - “If French industry were, in future, to service only the French market, it would not be doing itself any favours,” said European Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes in an interview with German daily Handelsblatt on Monday 8 February. “One has to wonder if the French president is seeking to hamper his own industry,” she added. Nicolas Sarkozy has said that he wants cars sold in France to have been made in France. This statement was made against a background of conflict with car-maker Renault, which wanted to relocate production of its Clio 4 model to Turkey. The French government has since received assurances from Renault that it will continue Clio production in France. (L.C./transl.rt)
