25/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 25 January, the European Commission cleared the planned acquisition of the German cable network operator Unitymedia GmbH (active only in the Länder of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse) by Dutch company Liberty Global Europe Holding B.V., another cable network operator, currently active in nine member states, including Austria (but not Germany). Its division Chellomedia is active in the production of three pay-TV channels broadcast in Germany. The Commission explains in a press release that it believes the deal will not significantly impede competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any significant part of it. (A.B./transl.fl)
