Brussels, 14/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - After an interview in Brussels on 12 January with the US special envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell, and the “Paris Group” (composed of the main donors of aid to the Palestinian people), the Spanish minister for foreign affairs and current president-in-office of the EU Council, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, said there was “general mobilisation” on the part of the international community aimed at rekindling peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians. “It is time for commitment, and that's what the European Union is going to do, working together with the parties, with the Palestinians, with the Arab world, with the Israelis, so that we can jointly reset the clock of peace”, he said. “Timing is important. It is vital that the negotiations start again”, Moratinos stressed. “We are in a preliminary stage” and an international conference such as the one held in Madrid in 1991 has therefore “not been considered”, he added.
