Brussels, 14/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - Dacian Ciolos, the European Commissioner-designate for agriculture and rural development and whose hearing takes place at the European Parliament on Friday 15 January, has appointed his Head of Cabinet and other members of the cabinet.
In an effort to stop certain tongues wagging that portray him as being too close to the French position supporting a strong Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), he has appointed Georg Haeusler, a 41 year old Austrian and head of unit at DG Agriculture for relations with the European Court of Auditors. The Deputy Head of Cabinet for Mr Ciolos will be Sorin Moisa (a Romanian who worked at DG Transport). Cabinet members include: Yves Madre (from the French department of agriculture, who represented his country at the special agriculture committee) and Ico Von Wedel (a German, previously at DG Budget and currently at the Commission Secretariat General).
A 45 year old British journalist, Roger Waite, will be spokesperson. He is currently Editor-in-Chief for AGRA FACTS (a specialist publication on agricultural affairs in the EU). (L.C.)
