Polish and Baltic states' exporters concerned over increase in customs duties on pigs for Russia

Brussels, 13/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - One of the effects of the customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan has been an increase in the import duty on live pigs for slaughter from 5% to 40%, with effect from 1 January 2010. “This action has caused great concern and problems for our pig producers and exporters,” state the Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and Polish delegations in a note to be put to the Agriculture Council on Monday 18 January.
