05/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - In response to a questionnaire from MEPs, before her hearing by the LIBE committee at the European Parliament on Tuesday 19 January, the commissioner-designate for internal affairs, Cecilia Malmström, referred to future proposals in the immigration field. In 2010, the Commission will present two directives (spring): one on conditions for taking in and accommodating seasonal workers, and the other on procedures for people benefiting from company transfer stays. A green paper will be launched on family reunification, as well as an action plan on non-accompanied migrant children. Strengthening Frontex is planned for February and will seek to improve the availability of equipment and cooperation with third countries. The Commission intends to continue the debate on establishing precise rules of engagement for rescuing the shipwrecked at sea. In April, the Commission intends to publish an assessment of implementation of the European Immigration and Asylum Pact, in view of adoption by the European Council in June. (B.C./transl.fl)
