Brussels, 23/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - In reaction to a damning report by the UN on the massacre in Conakry on 28 September, the EU decided on 22 December to step up its sanctions against the Guinean junta, with a freezing of assets and a ban on the export of equipment which might be used for internal repression. In addition, the list of people to be targeted by a visa ban on entering the territory of the United Kingdom has been lengthened. "In view of the seriousness of the situation in the Republic of guinea, the Council has decided to impose additional restrictive measures consisting of a freeze of assets against individual members of the National Council for Democracy and Development (NCDD) and persons and entities associated with them", state the conclusions approved (without debate) under point A by Tuesday's Environment Council. The details of the measures have been published in the Official Journal L 346 of 23 December. The Council has also decided to suspend the EU/Guinea fisheries agreement (see other article).
