Brussels, 16/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 15 December, the European Commission authorised the proposed acquisition of joint control of the German company Ensys by a wholly-owned subsidiary of RWE (Süwag), Capiton AG and Gothaer Versicherungsbank VVaG, which are also German companies. RWE is mainly active as a supplier of electricity and natural gas. Capiton is a private investment company and Gothaer an insurance company. Ensys is active in electricity trading and the retail supply of electricity. The Commission examined the effects of the planned operation on competition, particularly the horizontal overlaps between the activities of RWE and those of Ensys regarding retail supply of and trading in electricity, and the vertical link between the wholesale operations of RWE and Ensys' retail electricity supply activities stock. It reached the conclusion that the operation would not significantly hinder effective competition in the European Economic Area or a substantial part thereof. (O.L./trans.fl)
