Brussels, 18/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has announced the successful completion, on Friday 13 November, of talks for a cooperation agreement with Iraq. Talks began exactly three years ago. The framework agreement opens the road to global dialogue with this country to consolidate cooperation not only in the political field but also in combating terrorism, promoting human rights, as well as trade and investment in sectors such as energy and services. The EU assures it is keeping to its commitments regarding reconstruction of the country. The sum of €900 million has been earmarked since 2003 for restoring basic services, the promotion of democracy and good governance. (F.B./transl.jl)
