Brussels, 10/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - As part of the 2009 Lux Prize (see EUROPE 10012), the chairwoman of the European Parliament education and culture committee, Doris Pack (EPP, Germany) welcomed Fatih Akin, director of 2007 prize winner Auf den Anderen Seite, and the directors and producer of the three films in the competition: Kamen Kalev, director of Eastern Plays, Hans Christian Schmid, director of Sturm, and Christophe Rossignon, producer of Welcome to the Parliament. The guests spoke of the lack of support for small national productions and what could be done to require local distribution networks in member states to distribute more European films. The winner of the 2009 LUX Prize will be announced on 25 November. (I.L./transl.rt)
