Brussels, 09/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - The association Euromed Heritage, a programme funded by the European Union, is hosting a regional workshop on Monday 9 November and for three days on "Preventing and fighting illicit traffic of cultural property". The aim is to initiate a bottom-up approach to safeguarding Mediterranean heritage, by "improving the legislation on cultural property in the Mediterranean region and improving its safekeeping".
This workshop is organised in collaboration with the UNESCO Bureau of Beirut. It will bring together representatives of the authorities of the Mediterranean partner countries of the European Union, representatives of international institutions such as UNESCO, ICOM, INTERPOL, UNIDROIT, the World Customs Organisation (WCO), and professionals in the field of law and heritage legislation. The aim is to examine the problem and to debate issues such as best practice, procedures and cooperation in the field. (F.B./transl.fl)
