European Court of Human Rights authorises States to retain gender binaries in civil status records

27/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 26 June, the European Court of Human Rights rejected the request to refer a judgment that did not condemn France for refusing to use the term “gender neutral” or “intersex” back to the Grand Chamber. This judgment, handed down in January 2023, is therefore final. It concerns a biologically intersex person requesting an amendment to their birth certificate.
