17/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - The first meeting of the Galileo Interinstitutional Panel (GIP) will be held on Wednesday 18 February at the European Parliament. The panel, which was set in place in 2007 as an advisory body and which involves the EP in the debate on progress for the establishment of Galileo, the first European satellite radionavigation system, brings together the representatives of three EU institutions: - a troika of Council presidencies (former, current and next), three members of the EP as well as a representative from the European Commission. Also, on visit to Brussels on 11 February, the director general of the European Space Agency (ESA), Jean-Jacques Dordain, said the four validation satellites in orbit should be launched in 2010 and that the installation of the constellation should be completed, as planned, in 2013.
