17/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament transport committee unanimously adopted, on Tuesday 17 February, the recommendations for second reading of the report by Gilles Savary (PES, France) on financial insurance for shipowners, and that by Luis de Grandes Pascual (EPP-ED, Spain) on preventing pollution caused by ships. These are the last two proposals of directive forming the third maritime package (ERIKA III). Adoption of the two reports confirm the common position reached by the Council in October last (see EUROPE 9578) and close work on the package. The Parliament is expected to confirm this vote during the first plenary session in March (9-12/03), and to approve six other joint texts of the package that came under conciliation agreement in December 2008 (see EUROPE 9800). The JHA Council should formally adopt all the proposals of the package on 26 February. (A.By./transl.jl)
