On Monday 28 July, the European Commission added four Polish honey-based alcoholic beverages to the list of “traditional specialities guaranteed” (TSG). Along with protected geographical indication (PGI) and protected designations of origin (PDO), TSG seek to promote the production of quality products and support rural development. Unlike PGI and PDO, however, “traditional specialities guaranteed”, rather than referring to the origin of products, highlight their traditional character, whether in their ingredients or means of production. The four Polish beverages, Czwórniak, Dwójniak, Póltorak and Trójniak, will be added to the list of TSG, which already contains about 20 products. (A.B./transl.rt)
