23/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 23 February, European Commissioner Ján Figel (education, training, culture and youth) will be awarding prizes to six best examples of “eTwinning” between schools. The prize-winning projects are to be found in Spain, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Poland and Slovakia. The programme, launched by the European Commission in January 2005, allows EU schools to set up international “virtual” partnerships on the Internet free of charge. Eight percent of EU schools took part in the programme in 2006, i.e. twice as many as in 2005 (4%). (lc)
