Brussels, 23/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - The states in the ACP (Africa Caribbean Pacific) group, linked to the EU by the Cotonou Agreement, regret the loss of human lives and the destruction of private and public goods in Guinea Conakry. They urge the government and unions of Guinea Conakry to resume dialogue with a view to applying the conclusions set out in the minutes of negotiations on 27 January 2007, signed following the general strike launched on 10 January. They call on government and union authorities immediately to respect the commitments made in these minutes. The ACP countries encourage the African Union and the CEDEAO (Economic Community of West African States) to continue their efforts to try to bring the situation in Guinea back to normal by increasing and strengthening the political dialogue. The ACP countries confirm their solidarity with and support for the people of Guinea in this process. This call was made in a statement from the ACP committee of ambassadors. (an)
