01/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has approved the proposed acquisition by Saab AB, which is jointly controlled by the UK-based BAE Systems Plc and the Swedish holding company Investor AB, of Ericsson Microwave Systems AB, also of Sweden. Ericsson Microwave Systems AB is active in the market for defence electronics and avionics and, in particular, provides ground-based, naval and airborne radar systems. The Commission's examination of the proposed transaction showed that it would not lead to any horizontal overlaps among the parties' activities, nor would it have any effect on vertically related markets, given Saab's and BAE System's established presence in defence products with integrated radar systems, such as combat aircraft and surface-to-air missile systems.
