19/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - Luisa Morgantini (Rifondazione comunista) told the press of her recent trip to Pakistan, with NGO representatives. During the visit she visited a refugee camp in Peshawar and a school created with support provided by the "Women in Black" organisation (active for four years now in Italy) to groups of women Afghan refugees in Pakistan who have worked clandestinely in their country to oppose the Taliban regime. Ms Morgantini calls for these women's groups to be represented in negotiations on the formation of the post-Taliban regime (see EUROPE of 15 November, p.5, on the subject of Emma Bonino's speech at the EP debate on the international situation). During the same debate Council President Isabelle Durant had expressed a similar concern, stressing that gender issues should be taken into account in this new phase and that it was unthinkable for Afghan women to be excluded from taking part in the new government.
