Strasbourg, 19/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a resolution adopted during Thursday's urgent debates, the European Parliament praised the Commission's rapid decision, through ECHO, to send an evaluation team to Algeria (along with immediate aid of EUR 758 800), following the recent floods that have left over 500 dead. Parliament urged the Commission to examine all possibilities of providing special emergency aid to the victims of this unprecedented disaster and to assist the Algerian government by sending a team of technical experts on location to evaluate the damage. The Commission and Member States, acting within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, should also provide aid for the reconstruction of houses and infrastructure, noted Members.
