20/03/2001 (Agence Europe) - At the meting of ETUC's trade union coordinating group (European Trade Union Confederation)/EP, in Strasbourg last week, chaired by Stephen Hughes, ETUC General Secretary Emilio Gabaglio set out the trade union priorities for the Stockholm Summit (see EUROPE of 3 March, p.16). "We have two clear messages for the Summit", Gabaglio recalled, these are: "set goals to increase investments in human resources and, by 2003, provide each worker with the opportunity of enjoying initial training into new technologies". At the same time, he noted that "50% of people work with computers, 2/3 of whom are employees, but only 16% of them have received adequate training", and he placed emphasis on "the need to establish interim objectives for the rate of employment by 2005".
