14/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - One has not to confuse therapeutic cloning and reproductive cloning, says Francoise Grossete MEP (France, EPP) in a press release. According to her, by opposing the development of genetic research, President Chirac "does not measure the impact of a sudden end to it would have for science in France". Recalling that a resolution that the EP adopted in September last made a clear distinction between therapeutic research and human cloning, Ms. Grossetet considers that medical research into frozen human embryos, so far earmarked for destruction, offered marvellous opportunities, while opposing any form of human cloning aimed at reproducing a similar being with the aim of improving it. It is "not right to claim that therapeutic cloning would unavoidably lead to reproductive cloning", she states.
