14/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - By approving without debate the report by the British Conservative Dan Dover on the effects of the transition period granted to the United Kingdom with regards to the certain provisions of the 1994 Directive on the protection of youth at work, the European Parliament shared the Commission's opinion according to which, as the period for transposition of these provisions expired on 22 June 2000, the United Kingdom must ensure to full implementation of the Directive in question. According to the resolution adopted by the plenary, the possibilities for derogations granted to London are sufficient, and a full implementation of the Directive should thus not have negative effects on the employment possibilities of youths.
