05/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - According to information recently published by the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission on consumer confidence and industrial confidence, the first figures for January 2001 show a fall of 0.2 points in the economic sentiment indicator for the EU and a fall of 0.3 points in the euro-zone. Spain, on the other hand, records the highest increase with 0.6 points, while the economic sentiment indicator fell in the Netherlands and Italy by -1.4 and -0.7 points respectively. The industrial confidence indicator fell 2 points in the EU and 3 points in the euro-zone last month, while consumer confidence remained stable, as did the industrial capacity utilisation indicators and the service sector confidence indicators. Finally, the construction confidence indicator remained steady in the EU, gaining 3 points in the EU and 2 points in the euro-zone compared to last December.
