Washington, 05/02/2001 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana was in Washington on Monday 5 February to meet the new US Administration, and above all Secretary of State Colin Powell and President Bush's National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice (we recall that, at the Wehrekunde in Munich on Friday and Saturday, Mr Solana had met Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld).
On 6 February, Mr Solana will take part, in New York, in the fourth high level meeting of the UN regional organisations on cooperation in the peace-building, during which the United Nations and the EU will examine how to develop their cooperation for conflict prevention and peace. Discussions covered not only conflict prevention operations but also the restoring of peace after conflicts. On the fringe of this meeting, Mr Solana spoke of the situation in the Balkans with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and his Special Representative for the region, Carl Bildt.
