18/01/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has these recent days specified the contents of the White Paper on European transport policy, which should, in principle, be presented on 7 March, at the same time as the review of the Trans-European Networks. The White Paper will, in particular, relate to: (1) a re-balancing in modes of transport, to the benefit of the railways and maritime transport; (2) the restructuring of road transport through social and non-tax measures; (3) the development of combined transport (the Commission should propose a development programme for combined transport with a consequential budget); (4) rationalisation of the use of private cars in cities.
