14/06/2016 (Agence Europe) -DG Mobility and Transport director general disappointed by US attitude in aviation. Henrik Hololei, the director general of the European Commission's DG Mobility and Transport, has expressed his regrets, “as a friend”, about the rather cool position adopted by the US on aviation policy. He expressed this opinion during a lengthy speech to the International Aviation Club in Washington DC on Monday 13 June. He explained that he was “a little sad” that the aviation sector is not included in the transatlantic partnership that is currently bogged down in heated negotiations. Similarly, with regard to progress on implementation of the Open Skies Agreement between the EU and US which was signed in 2007 and which has still not been completely enforced; with regard to the blockage of the entry onto the US market of Norwegian Air International; and with regard to the rules on ownership and control, where he said there has been “exactly zero progress in 10 years”. Hololei considers that the US position is all the more incomprehensible because it involves a crucial sector, and he said he dreamed of a day when there would be a Transatlantic Open Aviation Area.
