Eight new protected food names registered

Brussels, 14/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - As announced (see EUROPE 11564), on Tuesday 14 June the European Commission approved the registration of eight new agricultural products as protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI).

The Commission registered a German PDO: - Allgäuer Sennalpkäse, a hard cheese. It registered the following PGIs: - Zagorski puran, from the Croatian Zagorje breed; - Pintade de l'Ardèche, guinea fowl bred outdoors (from France); - Poulet de l'Ardèche/ Chapon de l'Ardèche, free-range chickens and capons (from France); - Sel de Salies-de-Béarn, salt (France); - Soumaintrain, a soft cheese produced in a number of French départements and made exclusively from whole cream cow's milk; - Gall del Penedès, chickens of the traditional Penedesenca breed (Spain); - Fogaça da Feira, a sweet bun with a flavour and aroma of lemon and cinnamon, produced in Portugal.

The Commission is preparing to register the PGIs Glyko Triantafyllo Agrou, a sweet dessert from Cyprus made from a mixture of rose petals, sugar and water, and Krupnioki œl¹skie, a cooked, spiced pig's offal sausage from Poland. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
