08/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - Neven Mimica visits Cuba. On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 March, the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, will be in Cuba. Bilateral cooperation will be central to his talks with members of the government, including the Minister for external trade and investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, and the Minister for the economy and planning, Marino Murillo. He will meet the latter along with the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, who will be also in Havana to finalize negotiations on a association and cooperation agreement with Cuba (EUROPE 11506). Cuba, which has been a member of the group of ACP (African/Caribbean/Pacific) States since 2000, has never been party to the Cotonou Agreement between the EU and the ACP. EU/Cuba cooperation is financed by the EU budget (€50 million for 2014-2020) and supports the national development strategy, which focuses on food security and sustainable agriculture, the environment and adaptation to climate change, as well as economic and social modernisation.
