On Tuesday 16 June, the Slovak delegation presented the Agriculture Council with the results of the meeting held in Bratislava on 18-19 May by the agriculture ministers from the Visegrad Group (enlarged to Romania and Slovenia). The following subjects were assessed during the course of this meeting: - improving the position of farmers in the food chain; - simplifying the common agricultural policy (CAP); - and the agreement as part of the process for protecting forests in Europe. During the Council, countries such as Lithuania, France and Portugal backed the Visegrad Group's initiative - especially on strengthening the power of producers. (LC)
