In his speech at the Euromaritime Forum in Paris on Tuesday 3 February, Commissioner Karmenu Vella particularly highlighted the tremendous potential of ocean energy: energy production would be constant (tides never stop), the security of energy supply would be guaranteed, wave energy alone has a potential that could cover two thirds of the projected total energy consumption of the European Union in 2030. According to some estimates, the global wave and tidal energy market could be worth up to €535 billion between 2010 and 2050. (LC)
