11/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Government reshuffle against background of differences within Social Democrats. On Wednesday 11 June, Croatia's Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, replaced two of the ministers in his cabinet. This reshuffle bears witness to the deep differences rocking his Social Democrat Party (SDP, in power). Milanovic did not provide any explanation for the replacement of Health Minister Rajko Ostojic, and Education Minister Zeljko Jovanovic, telling press that these were “two demanding portfolios”. The SDP has been weakened for several weeks now with the serious differences of opinion pitting Milanovic - who is also president of the party - against his former finance minister, Slavko Linic. Linic was dismissed from the government in early May after the public prosecutor opened an investigation into a case that could allegedly have caused the state several million euro damage. Linic, who has denied the allegations, was expelled from the SDP this weekend. One of the two ministers dismissed on Wednesday openly supported Linic. (LC)
