19/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - Illegal immigration back on the rise. A senior official from the Libyan Home Affairs Department deplored the new flood of immigrants to Libya and called on the European Union to help the country make its southern borders secure. General Abdelmonem al-Tounsi explained that thousands of migrants were coming from Syria and neighbouring countries. They are coming through the Msaad terminal at the Egyptian border in the north east of the country, he explained. He added that, “hundreds of migrants are also coming from the south, particularly Nigeria”. For several years, Libya has been the destination and transit country for hundreds of thousands of African immigrants to European shores. (LC/transl.fl)
