News - immediately denied - of the detention of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko brought reactions from President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek and the EPP (European People's Party). In a statement, Buzek expressed his concern over the “politically motivated nature” of the arrest, while the leader of the EPP and other party representatives condemn the arrest as an “arbitrary act”. In a press release, the EPP also expresses its concern at the deterioration of the democratic and economic situation in Belarus. (Gp/transl.rt)
