EU-Brazil agreement on visa exemption

Brussels, 05/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 6 October, the European Commission will initial an exemption agreement for short-stay visas with Brazil. This symbolic signature will take place in Stockholm, on the occasion of the third summit between the EU and Brazil in the framework of the strategic cooperation established at the first summit in the series, which was held in Lisbon in July 2007. The Commission, which is negotiating this agreement on the heart of the EU, "has done a good job", experts from the EU27 said on Monday 5 October. Nationals from four member states, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia and Malta, are still subject to visa obligations when travelling to Brazil (EUROPE 9984). Once it has been initialled, the agreement must be signed and then concluded before it definitively enters into force. (B.C./transl.fl)
